TKFDM goes Love Data Week 2026

Love Data Week (LDW) is celebrated  internationally and focuses on research data and research data management.

Under the motto “Where's the Data?”, Love Data Week 2026 will be celebrated worldwide from February 9 to 13 with numerous events on a wide variety of topics. The FDM initiatives in German-speaking countries want to raise awareness of research data management by encouraging broad participation in Love Data Week.

An overview of the events can be found at Forschungsdaten.Info.

TKFDM is represented at this year's Love Data Week with three events:

"Wie erstelle ich barrierefreie Reports zu meinen Forschungsdaten in R?" (in German)

Montag,  den 09. Februar 2026 | 11:30 – 12:30 Uhr

Björn Fissler shows in a presentation in cooperation with the GO-Unite! AG Inklusion im FDM how to prepare your analyses in such a way that they are accessible to everyone—regardless of individual requirements or assistive technologies.

Die Themen im Überblick:

The topics at a glance:

  • Basics of digital accessibility
  • Structure of accessible reports: metadata, structure and semantics, colors and color contrasts, fonts
  • Designing accessible plots and diagrams
  • Alternative texts: manual, automatic, and with artificial intelligence
  • Conversion to output formats

The talk is aimed at researchers who use R, but also at FDM employees who want to advise researchers on this topic, as well as anyone who wants to present their research data in an accessible and inclusive way. The goal is to make accessibility an integral part of your own work process.

"FAIRify your Data 2.0 " (in German)

Dienstag, den 10. Februar 2026 | 10:00 – 12:00 Uhr

How can we measure how “FAIR” a dataset actually is? This is where FAIR assessment tools come in – tools that objectively evaluate the FAIRness of data. The workshop offers an introduction to the FAIR principles and a brief overview of different FAIR assessment tools. Kevin Lang will present our new FAIR assessment tool, which was designed specifically for use by researchers and research data management staff.
After the demonstration of the tool, you will have the opportunity to try it out for yourself. Feel free to bring the DOIs or URLs of your own data sets. Don't worry: if you don't have your own data at hand, you can work with sample data sets provided by the speakers.

"eLabFTW.hs-itz.de – an Electronic Lab Notebook for Thuringian Research Groups"

Mittwoch, den 11. Februar 2025 | 14:00 – 14:30 Uhr

Electronic laboratory notebooks (ELNs) have emerged as vital tools in modern research, significantly impacting how data and metadata are documented, managed, and shared throughout the research data life cycle. By enabling structured, standardized, and consistent metadata collection from the start of data generation, ELNs notably improve the metadata quality. Their digital nature not only eases backup and collaboration but also enhances the discoverability of new connections across the datasets which encourages data reuse.

In collaboration with the Thuringian Competence Network for Research Data Management (TKFDM) and the Competence Center Digital Research (Zedif), the IT-Center of Thuringian universities (HS-ITZ) operates a shared instance of the generic ELN eLabFTW that can be used by research groups from Thuringian universities and universities of applied sciences. In this Coffee lecture, the TKFDM Data Stewards give a short introduction to research documentation with eLabFTW and explain how institutional access to the HS-ITZ instance can be enabled for interested Thuringian universities & universities of applied sciences.
