The TKFDM FAIR Assessment Tool is complete and publicly available!

It was already announced at the FDM Days 2025 and applied during this year’s FAIRest Dataset competition: our new FAIR Assessment Tool! Back in 2023, we explored the available FAIR Assessment Tools, classified them, and created an overview.

Our tool wasn’t developed entirely from scratch, but further built on the already existing open-source survey tool from the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC). In doing so, we aimed to remove inconsistencies from the questions and answers and, if necessary, add new questions aligned with the criteria. Additional improvements include the use of color to assess responses, checkboxes to assist in answering certain questions, the option to export the completed survey as a report, and the fact that the tool is now available not only in English but also in German.

Like its predecessor, the tool is completely open-source and available on GitHub, where you can find both the source code and the hosted website via GitHub Pages (github.io). The documentation on the weighting of responses and the application of the FAIR principles can be found on Zenodo. In addition, the project is now listed under our activities and can be directly accessed via our network page.
