Our Network

As part of the Thuringian Strategy for Digitalization in Higher Education from 2017 and its continuation from 2021, the Thuringian Ministry for Education, Science and Culture (until December 2024: Ministry for Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society) supports the TKFDM, which was established in October 2018. The TKFDM is a cooperation between the research data management advisory offices of the Thuringian universities (University of Erfurt, Ilmenau University of Technology, Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Bauhaus-Universität Weimar) in order to provide all Thuringian higher education institutions with the broadest possible range of services. The coordination of the network is based at Friedrich Schiller University Jena. In addition to the members of the TKFDM from the Thuringian universities, there are Data Stewards operating throughout Thuringia and contact persons at the universities of applied sciences.

The competence network:

provides knowledge about all aspects of research data management throughout the data lifecycle
conducts training courses and workshops
provides information about existing infrastructures and thereby increases the visibility and accessibility of available services
identifies current needs from the scientific community through dialogue with researchers, incorporates these into the development of new projects (e.g. Rent a Data Steward, REFODAT and Electronic Laboratory Notebooks), and thus improves the acceptance of new services
deepens the existing expertise in research data management in Thuringia
networks with local stakeholders (including vice presidencies for research and teaching, research funding advisory offices, IT Center of the Thuringian Universities, Cooperative Network of Thuringian University Libraries, legal and data protection departments of the universities) as well as between university locations
cooperates closely with contact persons and service centers at universities of applied sciences in order to make services accessible to researchers at all higher education institutions in the state
is actively involved with national and international initiatives in the field of research data management (RDM) (National Research Data Infrastructure, state initiatives in other German federal states, Data Stewardship in Germany, Research Data Alliance, DINI/nestor, etc.)
monitors developments in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine learning, open science, high-performance computing, and electronic laboratory notebooks, and prepares these developments for the RDM sector
